Care companies go bust

Two Derby companies providing care to elderly and disabled
people have gone into receivership, leaving 42 people without
services.

Good Neighbours and Complete Care Link, under contract to Derby
City Council, employed about 90 carers. Neither carers nor clients
had notification that either firm was to stop trading.

A council spokesman confirmed alternative care services had been
found. “We have managed to cover all service users with our own
in-house and independent sector services,” he said.

The council’s director of social services, Margaret McGlade,
said: “Clearly, as we’re making arrangements at very short notice,
there may be some variations but we will not leave people without
support.”

However, the council was unable to confirm or deny local reports
that a number of staff had not been paid their full wages.
