Social work figures take up NHS posts

Three former leading figures in social work are to play a major
role in reforming the organisation of the NHS in Scotland, Susan
Deacon, health minister, announced

George Irving, former director of social work in North Ayrshire,
will lead Ayrshire and Arran NHS Trust. Brian Cavanagh, former
chairperson of the social work committee for Lothian Region and the
social work spokesperson for the Convention of Scottish Local
Authorities, will lead Lothian NHS Trust. As announced in March,
Peter Bates, former director of Dundee Council social work
department and Tayside Region, has already taken up post as
chairperson of Tayside NHS Trust.

In Scotland, the 43 former Health Boards are to be reorganised
into 15 new unified NHS Trusts. The people who will chair four
other NHS Trusts have yet to be appointed.
