Announcement expected on free personal care in Scotland

The Scottish executive is expected to announce today (Thursday)
that it has found the funding for free personal care as Angus
MacKay, finance minister, details spending plans for the next
year.

If the funding for free personal care is not included in the
plan, the executive will come under fire from campaigning groups
for older people and carers, the Convention of Scottish Local
Authorities and opposition parties for failing to implement its
commitment to introducing universal free personal care made earlier
this year. Within the announcement MSPs are also expected to learn
that more funding will be invested in services to tackle drug
addiction.
