Voluntary groups receive cash boost

Over 200 small voluntary organisations in Scotland have
benefited from the first tranche of grants given out by the
executive as part of the Year of Volunteers declared by the United
Nations.

Jackie Baillie, social justice minister, today announced that
201 groups would receive grants of £500 each in a total
distribution of £100,000. Among those to benefit were Gordon
Disability Action Ltd, North Argyll Carers Centre, East Ayrshire
Women’s Aid and a host of other groups concerned with social
care. Closing date for the next round of grants is 30 September
when £50,000 will be distributed.
