Patient mounts court challenge to home care refusal

A dying hospital patient has been granted leave for a judicial
review against Dyfed Powys Health Authority, claiming that its
decision not to provide an intensive care regime at home is a
breach of his human rights.

Jason Lee Powell, 33, who is suffering from multiple sclerosis
and pneumonia, is not expected to live beyond Christmas.

Powell’s lawyers say that the authority will not fund home care
but have agreed to a nursing home placement. He is currently in
West Wales General Hospital.
