DRAFT STANDARDS FOR ALL SERVICES PUBLISHED

Draft standards for health and social care services have been
issued by the department of health.

They include regulations that set down the process for
registering with the National Care Standards Commission, and the
first regulatory framework for independent fostering agencies.

Health minister Jacqui Smith said: “For the first time, core
registration requirements will be set consistently across all
social and health care services including children’s homes, care
homes, private hospitals and fostering agencies”.

A full copy of the draft standards can be obtained from the doh

* The government has also issued draft guidance for agencies and
professionals on how to help children when carers induce or
fabricate illness in children or families because of Munchausen
syndrome.
