Service for children with learning difficulties set to expand

Scotland’s only `portage` service for young children with
learning difficulties is set to expand over the next few

The Lomond Early Stimulation Association (LESA) is currently the
only service in Scotland using portage – an intensive
stimulation method targeting children aged three years and under,
using parents as key carers and focusing on the positive attributes
of the children.

The aim of the service, more common in England, is to prepare
the children for entry into mainstream nurseries by the age of
three years.

LESA trains specialist workers to work with children and parents
in their own homes and currently serves the Helensburgh/Lomond
areas. Now they are to recruit a further 12 staff and expand to
