Care homes in web pilot

Vacancies at more than 18,000 care homes will be available to
placement officers and care managers with a new internet
service.

The service is based on an existing database of registered
nursing and residential homes drawn from the publication The
A-Z of Care Homes
.

A pilot for the service by bettercaring.co.uk will begin next
month in Kingston, south London. The company, part of The
Stationery Office, hopes to take the scheme nationwide.

North Somerset has agreed to be the second pilot and there has
been interest from authorities including Cardiff, Norfolk,
Hertfordshire, Islington, Hackney and Enfield, the company
said.

Bettercaring chief executive Eric Stevenson, said local
authority and health authority staff would be able to find even
specialist places without having to contact each home.
