Domestic violence campaign enters second phase

The Scottish Executive has launched the second phase of its
domestic violence awareness campaign.

‘Domestic Abuse – there’s no excuse’ was
launched by first minister Jack McConnell, social justice minister
Iain Gray and his deputy Margaret Curran.

This stage of the campaign targets a younger audience by
providing additional sources of information. The telephone helpline
will be complemented by an interactive website where experiences
can be shared.

In Scotland, as many as one in five women will experience
domestic violence in their lifetimes and 100,000 children live with
domestic abuse.

McConnell said: “No one in Scotland today should live in fear.
As first minister, I will ensure we continue the excellent recent
work to tackle domestic abuse.

“Domestic abuse is unacceptable, there is never an excuse for it
and it will no longer be tolerated in Scotland,” he added.
