July launch date for new Welsh charity

Plans are under way to form a new charity in
Wales following the Children’s Society’s controversial decision to
pull-out of the country.

The staff group formed in the aftermath of the
society’s decision last year says that it has already set about
establishing an all-Wales charity which should be in place by
July.

It is hoped that the charity will be able to
develop advocacy projects in line with the recommendations of the
Waterhouse Tribunal into child abuse in north Wales and the recent
Carlile review into preventing abuse within the NHS in Wales.

Almost all of the projects that were in
jeopardy following the Children’s Society’s decision look set to
continue.
