Agencies ignoring pleas from parents

Many parents who seek help and support from professionals over
worries about their children’s mental and emotional health have
their concerns dismissed, according to a study by Parentline
Plus.

The report, Helping Children Make The Most of Life, says
parents’ instincts and concerns about their children need to be
taken seriously by agencies. But they may also need help to
articulate those fears.

It recommends developing specialist and universal services to
encourage parents to seek help early on.

Key reasons for emotional and mental health problems cited by 200
callers to the charity’s helpline were parents’ separation and
bullying.
