Glasgow council is launching an internal investigation after a
social services employee collected the wrong child from a primary
school.
A “homemaker”, employed by social
services, went to pick a girl up from school on behalf of a social
worker who had taken her to school in the morning, and since been
called away to an emergency meeting.
The homemaker was identified by the
head teacher, who then went to the class to fetch the girl. However
the wrong girl left the class and was subsequently driven away in
the social services employee’s car. The mix up was soon
apparent and the girl was returned to the school within half an
hour.
A council spokesperson said that
there were two girls in the same class with the same christian
name.
“Obviously the council acknowledges
the stress it caused to the parent involved and has already
apologised. At no point was the child in any danger,” he
stressed.
