Employment practice is key to recruitment

The chief executive of Topss England Andrea Rowe told delegates
last week that to tackle recruitment and retention it was essential
to look at good employment practice.

She said that funding for “golden hellos and handcuffs” and people
returning to social work should also be investigated, as did the
greater involvement of service users and carers in raising the
status of the social care workforce.

General Social Care Council chairperson Rodney Brooke said the GSCC
would address the profession’s low profile, and that the social
work degree and codes of practice would help to improve the image.
