Don’t ignore older people, says expert

A US expert in learning difficulties warned the government that it
must not forget about the employment and training needs of older
people.

John O’Brien, who consults on learning difficulties
internationally, said: “It is critical that while Connexions is
working with young people we don’t forget the needs of older
people.” He said that service providers and employers needed to
look at what older people could contribute and not automatically
dismiss them as unable to work. “We should be realistic about how
little we know about disability,” he said.
