One in three refugee women has been physically or verbally
abused since they arrived in the UK, a new report from Refugee
Action has revealed.
‘Is it Safe Here?’ also found that a third of refugee women did
not feel safe enough to go out alone during the day. The report
coincides with the charity’s campaign launch to get
voluntary, statutory and private providers to agree to minimum
standards of safety for refugee women.
Refugee Action chief executive Sandy Buchanan said: “We urge
policy makers and service providers to make practical changes, like
accommodating women in single-sex hostels, and stand up for
women’s safety.”
