Report says council is in top 25 per cent

Wokingham Council’s social services department is in the
top quarter of England’s social services, according to a
joint review report published last week.

The joint review by the Audit Commission and the Social Services
Inspectorate finds the department’s key strengths to be “a
genuine commitment to partnership working” with its community
services department retaining a “stable, experienced and committed
workforce”.

Interim director of community services Sue Richards said: “I am
pleased that the report shows the department in such a good light.
And I’m pleased to say we have already got measures in place
to address those areas where we need to demonstrate further
improvement.”

Areas that were found to need improvement included more
effective service planning for ethnic minorities.
