Caring role harms education prospects

Taking on a caring role can be a major barrier to a child’s
education, research published this week by charity Carers UK
reveals.

Poor educational attainment, truancy, lateness and bullying are
common problems among children under 16 who care for an ill or
disabled relative. The report calls on schools to identify and
support young people with caring responsibilities and, where
necessary, involve agencies such as social services.
