Federation seeks government pledge

A leading social housing group has called for assurances that
adequate funding will be available to help vulnerable people next
year.

The National Housing Federation is concerned that Supporting People
schemes beginning between April 2004 and March 2005 could fail to
receive sufficient money for services after they were not mentioned
in a recent government funding announcement.

“The question facing 2004 scheme providers now is ‘how can I
develop a new project when I don’t know if I’ll receive the funding
to keep it open?’,” said Diane Henderson, head of care, support and
diversity at the federation.

She said that telling schemes in September about their funding
allocation would be too late.

The government recently announced £81m of funding over two
years for schemes starting between April 2003 and March 2004 (news,
page 13, 26 June).
