Narrow majority backs smacking ban

A slim majority of visitors to Community Care‘s website
felt that smacking by parents and carers should be banned.

Following MPs’ calls for the removal of the defence of “reasonable
chastisement” last week, 59 per cent of visitors said smacking
children should be made illegal.

This week’s question follows think tank Demos’s recommendation that
child protection social workers be encouraged to take risks in
their jobs: Would giving child protection social workers
more autonomy improve their professional practice?
