More young people in Yorkshire will be able to look for jobs easily
or attend college thanks to the expansion of a moped hire
scheme.
Wheels 2 Work provides young people in rural areas with mopeds to
look for a job or attend work, further education or training. It
has recently added 22 more mopeds to its fleet and now has 40
mopeds and 12 bicycles.
Wheels 2 Work has been running for two years in Hambleton and
Richmondshire, and since last December in Harrogate.
In order to qualify, young people must have difficulty finding a
job, getting to work, or getting to their place of further
education or training because of a lack of transport. They also
have to pass a basic motorcycle training course and contribute
£2.50 a week in costs.
The scheme is a rural transport partnership project and is managed
by the Northallerton Voluntary Services Association.
