Delay in Liverpool work placements

Students in Liverpool studying for their social work diploma have
experienced “stress and frustration” waiting for the city’s social
services department to offer many of them work placements this
year.

A first year student at Old Swan Community College said she had
been waiting 13 weeks for a placement without an explanation from
her college or Liverpool Council. “My main fear is that this will
happen again next term, delaying the date that I finish the
diploma,” she said.

A spokesperson for Liverpool social services department said it had
been unable to offer all its usual 45 places until the autumn
because of senior managers being involved in council restructuring.

“Students would not be getting a quality placement here at the
moment if we took 45 in one go,” the spokesperson said.
