Council fined after death in care home

Cambridgeshire Council has been fined £35,000 plus costs after
a pensioner died when she fell from the window of one of its care
homes.

Social services admitted breaching health and safety rules before
Peterborough Crown Court despite a warning from the Health and
Safety Executive in 1996 that restrictors ought to be placed on
windows to stop them opening wide.

Ivy Gardener, 93, who suffered from depression and dementia, died
after falling from an unsecured first floor window at Queen’s Court
home in Bottisham.
