‘Don’t blame us’ orders government

According to instructions issued by the government, staff at the
Child Support Agency have been told not to blame ministers when
they are unable to find parents’ cases on their computers.

The Department for Work and Pensions spokesperson said the
“briefing note” to staff was to ensure they dealt with clients
“consistently” and included a “general reminder not to discuss
issues which do not affect the outcome of the case”.

He admitted that the phrase “not apportioning blame to ministers or
the government” appeared in a memo.
