Drive to cut drug use and offending

The Home Office has launched a £46.2m intensive package of
measures to combat drug-related crime in 30 of the worst affected
areas.

The package aims to provide support and treatment to rehabilitate
offenders from the moment they are identified as drug users,
throughout and beyond their sentence.

A key part of the initiative is compulsory drug-testing of
offenders charged with crimes such as burglary to ensure drug users
who commit crimes to feed their habit are identified early and
offered treatment.
