Police pooh-pooh stolen donkey tale

Asylum seeker hysteria was taken to extremes this week when a
tabloid newspaper accused asylum seekers of stealing donkeys for
food.

The Daily Star reported last week that nine donkeys that
gave rides to children at Blackheath Common, south east London,
were thought to have been stolen by East Africans.

A “police insider” allegedly said the donkeys may have been taken
by immigrants who like eating donkey meat. However, this week a
Scotland Yard spokesperson said: “There is no evidence to suggest
asylum seekers have stolen the donkeys to eat them.”

Community Care‘s Right to Refuge campaign aims to
challenge the current atmosphere of hysteria and racism towards
asylum seekers and refugees.
