Rows on the board blunt initiative

A government report into the government’s troubled regeneration
initiative New Deal for Communities will be published next
month.

The £2bn scheme, launched four years ago to improve 39
deprived neighbourhoods across England, has been beset by problems.
Five of the partnerships, including London, Birmingham and
Nottingham, have been affected by disagreements between board
members.

A spokesperson for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister said:
“Inevitably, with such an imaginative and ambitious programme, some
NDCs are experiencing teething troubles and some local communities
are taking time to work things out and get new systems up and
running.”
