Change case records style, says charity

Adoption social workers should consider changing the way they
record an adopted child’s case history, Baaf Adoption and Fostering
recommends.

In some cases, the Form E, which records case histories, may
contain distressing details of parental neglect or abuse and
consequently may not be the most appropriate document for use by
the adoptive family, says the new Baaf guidance.

It suggests social workers should use a more informal reporting
style that “would be more helpful where mitigating circumstances
can be fully explained and details included about all family
members”. A Form E would still need to be written to record
comprehensive information about a child’s life and adoption.
