The government has settled on a new definition of child
poverty.
The complex formula will include a measure of absolute low
income, relative low income, and material deprivation combined with
low income.
Poverty will be judged to be falling only when all three
indicators are moving in the right direction.
The new definition follows a consultation on how progress on the
government’s pledge to reduce and eventually eradicate child
poverty should be measured.
