Plans for centre to go to judicial review

The government’s plans to create a series of accommodation centres
for asylum seekers were delivered a blow last week.

The High Court gave Cherwell Council permission to launch a
judicial review against the decision by deputy prime minister John
Prescott to approve the development of an accommodation centre at
Piddington, near Bicester.

The council said that Prescott’s decision went against a number of
the findings of an independent public inquiry into the plans,
carried out last March.

The hearing will begin between 1 March and 7 April.
