Pressure is greatest for social workers

Social services staff experienced more workplace pressure than any
other council employees, according to the 2003 local government
workplace survey.

“Social services workers experienced the greatest degree of
work-related pressure, lack appropriate equipment to provide
services and experience the highest incidence of staff shortages,”
said the report.

Education staff had a more upbeat view of management practice and
related performance outcomes while social services workers reported
less positive experiences, the report from the Office of the Deputy
Prime Minister found.

The survey also found that local government workers do not
generally feel well-rewarded.
