Warmer houses will cut fuel poverty

An £8.5m initiative to tackle fuel poverty is to target 7,000
homeowners in west London.

Under the Heatstreets project, electricity supplier Powergen will
conduct a street-by-street campaign in the boroughs of Brent,
Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and
Kensington and Chelsea.

Powergen is to install energy-efficiency measures, including
insulation for cavity walls and lofts and improved heating
controls.

Brent’s director of housing, Martin Cheeseman, said it was vital to
reduce the number of people living in fuel poverty as the links
between poor heating efficiency and ill-health were well
documented.
