Corporation urged to raise its game

The Housing Corporation has “lost its vision” and there is
confusion over which agency is responsible for social housing, a
new government report reveals.

The eighth report on the effectiveness of the organisation, from a
committee of MPs and peers, says it should stop being a “passive
delivery agency for the government housing programmes” and should
be “a champion of social housing.”

The report follows last week’s revelation in Community
Care
that some housing associations, which are funded and
regulated by the Housing Corporation, are “covertly excluding some
vulnerable groups” as part of their policies.

The report calls on the corporation to “enhance its role in
developing national housing policy and disseminate good
practice”.
