If you ask me…

Who has had the biggest influence on you?
Mary Slattery, my first adult placement carer. She made us more
independent. And Jane Abraham, my supporter in the consultative
group.

Which health or social care professional has been most use
to you?

Stephen Ladyman (community care minister) because he listens.

If you ran care services in your area what would you do
differently?
I’d get the people who do housing and day services to talk
to each other so there wouldn’t be gaps in services for people with
learning difficulties.

What one thing would improve your life?
Being able to read.

What three words best describe you?
Lovely, sharp, assertive.

What event most changed your life?
When I left the hospital, my friend Gloria encouraged me to go to
different groups like People First where I learned to speak up for
myself.

Has any government policy ever benefited you
personally?

Care in the community.

What has been your worst moment?
When I came out of the hospital I didn’t know where to go so I just
wandered around and felt horrible.

When did you last cry?
At Easter, in the meeting with my adult placement officer.
I didn’t think they were listening to me.

Who would you like to swap places with?
Stephen Ladyman. He has been helpful and deserves a
holiday.

How would you like to be remembered?
As a pain in the neck!
