STAR RATING 4/5

Every agency
working with carers would benefit from using this resource pack for
their staff or volunteer training programme, writes Heather
Rowell.

The book focuses on the awareness of carers: What is the carer’s
day like? What is the job description? What are the effects of
current legislation and formal assessment on carers? These are just
a few of the questions posed to the training participants.

Trainees work through the sessions, which allow them to consider
key areas requiring change to help carers. This exploration of the
obstacles, difficult situations and rights has the potential to
engage, enthuse and challenge participants.

Clearly set out, user friendly, easy to follow and photocopiable,
it allows individuals to explore, feel and understand what it’s
like to be a carer in a variety of settings.

Heather Rowell is information and advice co-ordinator, Age Concern,
