Evercare failing to reduce admissions

The government’s strategy for people with long-term conditions
will do little to reduce emergency hospital admissions, according
to Department of Health research.

An interim study of the Evercare programme, which provides the
model for the strategy, finds it is unlikely to cut emergency
hospital admissions for older people by more than 1 per cent in its
10 pilot areas.

Researcher Martin Roland said: “The same may apply to other case
management programmes, including the policy on long-term
conditions.”
