Needs of child carers should be addressed

Children’s charity Barnardo’s has called for the
needs of children caring for parents with mental health problems to
be addressed, writes Helen
McCormack.

In a briefing published today, the charity said the role of
young carers needs greater recognition.

The report – Keeping the Family in Mind – also
recommends that providers of mental health care should record the
parental responsibilities of their clients in order that services
can better address the needs of the child.
