Big cash investment needed, says report

Big cash investment needed, says report The UK must spend an extra
£750m to bring fostering services up to standard and tackle
the shortage of 10,000 carers, according to a report launched this
week.

The study, the first to calculate the cost of a fully resourced
foster care service, estimates that the governments of England,
Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will need to spend £1.7bn
next year, against an actual spend of £932m this year.

The report was published by the Fostering Network and Baaf Adoption
and Fostering, which are to discuss the findings with junior
children’s minister Maria Eagle this week.
