Government confirms date for publication of strategy

The long-awaited Supporting People strategy is to be launched next week, the government has announced today.

The initial strategy will be published alongside a consultation paper on the development of a Supporting People distribution formula on Tuesday.

Homeless Link has warned that the forthcoming strategy must contain strong safeguards to prevent funding being withdrawn from the most vulnerable groups.

Dominic Williamson, director of policy, practice and campaigns, said if the strategy, as expected, gave more financial freedom to local authorities, there could be a tendency to “close the door” on the most unpopular or mobile groups.
