* Discuss what they think the definition of “social care” should be. (Guide time for discussion: 30 minutes)
* Are the professional development needs of care sector workers adequately met by national vocational qualifications and courses leading to qualification as a social worker? Or is there a place for a degree in social care? (20 minutes)
* Social workers are often involved in care management and child protection work as opposed to the provision of care services. Is this due to the fact that many care services are now provided by independent and voluntary organisation – or by other factors? (20 minutes)
