SCIE appoints new chair

Allan Bowman is set to replace Jane Campbell as chair of the Social Care Institute for Excellence.

Bowman was strategic director for social care and health at Brighton and Hove Council and more recently worked at the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as head of programmes.

SCIE chief executive Bill Kilgallon said: “Allan’s long career in the sector and his clear understanding and experience of the interface between social care and health will put SCIE in an excellent position at this crucial turning point in the sector’s development.”

Bowman, a qualified social worker, said his priority would be to ensure that good practice identified by SCIE was shared “so that we can continue to drive up the quality of care that service users receive”.

Bowman takes over from Jane Campbell who announced last year that she would step down from the post in April 2006.

The decision was made by the board of trustees at a meeting today.
