Change is nothing new for anyone working in children’s services. But since the Every Child Matters green paper was published in September 2003, the pace and scale of reform hitting the
whole sector feels unprecedented.
The government’s goal is both admirable and indisputable: a better life for all children. But achieving this end goal is far from straightforward, and will require not only hard work but a level of joint-working that has not been seen before.
The children’s trusts that are being established across the country will provide the platform for partner agencies to work together to plan and commission services that reflect local need. And extended schools and children’s centres will provide the platform for delivering many of these services both holistically and accessibly.
It is because of this huge reform agenda transforming the way children’s services are delivered up and down the country that we at 0-19 have decided a monthly magazine is no longer
sufficient to meet the demand for information that comes with such change. This is therefore the last print issue of 0-19 as you know it.
However, it is by no means the end of 0-19. We will be updating the 0-19 website (www.0-19.co.uk) on a daily basis with the information you need to both perform better at work and understand how the reforms will affect you now and in the future. We will continue to send out a weekly e-bulletin, bringing the top news stories to your inbox every Tuesday. And, later in the year, we will be able to tell you about plans for more magazine coverage of the sector, this time on a weekly basis.
I hope you have enjoyed 0-19 magazine and will continue to make use of our website. Please feel free to send me your views on what you would like to see more of, as well as which aspects
of the magazine you would like to keep or replace in a new weekly offering.
