The government should introduce a cabinet-level champion for carers in England, campaigners said today.
Members of the all-party parliamentary carer’s group called on the government to create the post following the appointment of the first carers’ champion at cabinet level in the UK in the Welsh Assembly.
The Welsh champion, John Griffiths, was appointed last month.
Campaigners and MPs also highlighted the need to learn from the different carers’ policies emerging across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as the wider European perspective.
Helen Ferguson, director of Carers Northern Ireland, highlighted “an increasing divergence” between UK policies.
