Campaign launched to combat “the decimation” of community nurses and health visitors

A union representing community nurses and health visitors launched a campaign yesterday to combat “the decimation” of both professions due to NHS cuts, fewer training places and ageing workforces.

Amicus Health claims the two workforces are facing “the biggest crisis” in their histories and is calling on members to lobby MPs and the media to tackle the problem, in its Who Cares? campaign.

It said primary care trusts were targeting community nurses as a “soft target” for cuts, the 20 per cent of health visitors were due to retire in the next few years and training places for the latter had fallen significantly.
