Lewis slams white-dominated social care leadership

Care services minister Ivan Lewis today launched a stinging attack on the lack of ethnic diversity in the highest echelons of social care.

Lewis, speaking at the launch of the Options for Excellence workforce report at the National Children and Adult Services Conference, said he had been struck by the lack of black and ethnic minority people at the event.

He said: “I think this is a matter of grave concern for anybody who cares about the future of social care. We need to reflect on the fact that if you look at this conference, it is not representative of England and we have a duty and responsibility to do something about that.”
