Cardiff Council is to consult on increasing maximum home care charges by 25 per cent to tackle its financial difficulties, it announced yesterday.
The highest fees for care, which affect 20 per cent of users, would rise from £7.95 to £10 under the plans, with those paying less than the top charge not facing higher bills.
The council, which faces a £7m overspend for adults’ services this year, said that the full cost of home care was £20 an hour and it could no longer continue to “subsidise” this at current rates.
The consultation ends on 30 March 2007.
