Strategy for youth staff is announced

A youth workforce strategy will be produced by the Children’s Workforce Development Council in 2007-8, it announced in its business plan last week.

The workforce development body said the strategy would be informed by consultation with Connexions personal advisors, learning mentors and education welfare officers.

Other projects for 2007-8 include taking forward the workforce implications of the Care Matters children in care green paper and publishing new standards on foster care.

The council also plans to carry out work relating to Options for Excellence, the government’s social care workforce review published last year. This includes setting up arrangements to monitor and support practice learning initiatives and social care training.

Benchmarks against which CWDC would measure its progress include a reduction in staff shortages and turnover in key parts of the children’s workforce.
