The General Social Care Council has decided to consult on reforming the system of post-registration training and learning.
In January, the GSCC asked social workers, users and employers to submit their views on PRTL to gauge the appetite for fundamental change to the system across the sector.
In its response, the British Association of Social Workers said the system needed far-reaching reform because it did not address social workers’ competence “explicitly”.
On the back of the submissions, the GSCC has now decided it is worth consulting on fundamental reform. It said it would produce details on the consultation and its timescales in due course.
Under PRTL, all social workers must complete 15 days or 90 hours of training or study during their three-year registration period or face sanctions for misconduct.
