UK Independence Party chief Paul Wiffen has been suspended following his racist rant on Community Care.

A statement issued by UKIP last night said: “UKIP would like to apologise to Mike McNabb [Community Care’s Outside Left blogger] and everyone else who must have been deeply offended by this unacceptable outburst, which is wholly at variance with UKIP’s views and policies.

“The chairman Paul Nuttall has suspended Mr Wiffen. The matter has now been passed to the party secretary to initiate disciplinary proceedings.”

Wiffen was chair of UKIP London and a parliamentary candidate for Ilford South.
