Carers UK has named Heléna Herklots as its new chief executive.
Herklots, currently services director at Age UK, will succeed Imelda Redmond on 1 February 2012.
“The growing recognition of carers’ contribution and needs presents real opportunities to change the way we support families in communities, workplaces and through public services,” said Herklots. “However Carers UK members also know only too well the strain on families, with far-reaching change in the welfare system and enormous pressures on health and social care.
“There has never been a more important time to ensure that families are better supported.”
Herklots was previously head of policy at Age Concern England and has spent over 20 years working in policy and service development roles in older people’s services.
Redmond has joined Marie Curie Cancer Care as director of policy and public affairs after 12 years with Carers UK.
