In Swindon our mental health social workers are seconded and successfully integrated within Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust which also hosts our rota of experienced AMHPs who have worked together for many years.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and dynamic multi-disciplinary team based at the Victoria Centre in Swindon. The service provides interventions to clients requiring short or long-term support to assist their recovery.

We currently have a vacancy for a registered Social Worker within the service. In addition, the post holders will have the support of our specialist mental health Integrated Service Lead and AMHP Lead.

What you’ll get:

•   Professional and Clinical Supervision and support from the integrated leadership team
•    Learning and development opportunities including AMHP training (as appropriate)

•    Eating Out, Shopping and Entertainment discounts
•    A career average revalued earnings (CARE) pension scheme

This role is based within the Complex Intervention and Treatment Team 9-5pm Monday-Friday.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

Social Work at Swindon- a new approach

At Swindon Borough Council, we are bold and ambitious in our plans, with a clear vision and direction for the future. Our status as one of the UK’s fastest growing towns is driving transformational change across our organisation, most significantly within our highly valued Children’s and Adult Services Social Care teams.

Children’s Services- Our transformation journey

There’s never been a better time to join our Children’s Services teams as following a recent inspection, we’ve been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted (July 2019).

Ofsted recognised that the quality of leadership and management at all levels is an emerging key strength for us here at Swindon and our permanent senior leadership team is ambitious, energetic and assured in the oversight and delivery of services to children and their families.

Our quality of services has significantly improved over the last 12 months but we are not complacent and our transformation journey will continue, to ensure children receive a consistently good service everyday.

That means that we’re continuing to heavily invest in our Children’s Services teams & in you- through a reduction in caseloads and fostering a culture of learning and challenge, to include the launch of our Social Care & Leadership academy, giving you opportunities and support to develop your career.

Improvements include:

  • Multi-million pound investment in staff and support
  • Significant restructure creating smaller social worker teams
  • New intuitive IT system to cut down on desk time and make mobile working the norm
  • A separate 'Children Looked After' team to make sure we provide the best service for children in care
  • High standards for management practice, support and supervision for staff
  • Listening to our social workers by holding regular social work forums

At the heart of it all is our desire to promote and cultivate a strong learning culture combined with outstanding leadership and supervision. Here is what you can expect to find when you arrive:

  • Early help and community health practitioners co-located with our social workers, providing great working relationships
  • Fantastic relationships with partner agencies such as the police and Swindon CCG
  • Teams located within communities, providing a closer connection to the people we work with

Adult Services

Adult Social Care has never been more vital.  That’s why our focus is on early prevention and ensuring that in our communities, older people, disabled and vulnerable residents are safe and able to live their lives with as much independence as possible.

At the centre of our work is the individual, their strengths and abilities with links to their families and communities critical in the work that we do.

We work with partners & providers to offer the highest quality support, continually developing our practices and services to flexibly respond to the needs of our residents.

Our Adult Social Care teams comprise of: Older People & Physical Disability, Hospital, Reablement, Safeguarding, Mental Health, deprivation of Liberty and Best Interest Assessment.

We offer a challenging and diverse work environment that will extend your existing skills and knowledge, supporting the development of your social work career pathway and practice.  We strive for excellence and quality in everything we do and professional development is a high priority for our teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team and to influence how we are re-shaping Adult Social Care to meet the needs of our service users.
